SBIC is SBA’s premier vehicle for providing venture capital to small growing companies and has set a record in FY2000. It is a private venture capital firms that receives additional funds from the SBA through the sale of SBA-guaranteed debentures of the Federal Financing Bank. These venture firms are federally regulated and can assume more risk, thus funding more start-ups than private firms.
An important thing to remember is that all government
programs have social, economic and political objectives. You should not plan
your business around these programs. To gain assistance, however, you should
check to see if some government funds are available to help you implement your
business plan.
Many federal programs offer financial assistance in addition to the SBA. If you
